YOU KNOW YOU LIVE IN BARROW WHEN......

So, as many know, when Earl and Chris Finkler left town, they passed the "weenie roast box" to Ken. This is a box containing a table cloth, long lighter, a bunch of hot dog roasting sticks (some that are straightened out wire clothes hangers) and a yellow list of names. Ken is required to have at least one hot dog bonfire party at the beach a summer and has to call everyone on the list to let them know. Last night was it, and it was a great success.... About 30 people came and we had one surprise visitor... as we all stood around chatting, (including many members of the Department of Wildlife Management, specifically, polar bear patrol) Bessie showed up and asked "do you realize that there is a polar bear headed this way?"

Umm. No. Polar bear patrol took off to join the police who were busy hazing the bear down the beach (right towards the party). The bear did finally show up (but thankfully gave us enough time to eat our hot dogs...). We retreated to the vehicles for a little while, the bear swam by and then we headed back to the fire for more fun. Check out the picture of the kids playing with the polar bear swimming by in the background...The close up pictures above were not taken by me...(too close for the baby!)...

The party was also a goodbye to Eric, Jodie, Tyler, Warren and Cassidy...who are leaving Barrow on Saturday to head back to Texas. We will miss them!

A few more vacation pictures

Our trip out east

Ken, Gage and I made a trip east from July 26-Aug 9. We landed in Boston and then made our way to Clymer, NY via the Hudson Valley to see Chris P. and then Ithaca. Gage met Sid, HawkEye and Sister and had a fun time checking out Ithaca and Sid and Carol's new house (super cool). He ate at the Moosewood and got a really cool raven onesie from Silk Oak :) Then we motored west for a Fisk family weenie-roast and a Green family reunion, both of which were a lot of fun. Weather was nice until we started east again... then the rain started. We hit Ithaca and met Carol on our way back, then Ken, Gage and I took a couple of days to drive north, up through Vermont/New Hampshire...where we experienced torrential rains and flash floods... We quickly headed south to Norwell, where we wrapped up the trip with Cheryl's folks, a trip to Monti Granite and some really good food! Hope you enjoy the pictures :)
